I would really like to see quoted quotes make a comeback. You know, something like this:

1) Person A posts something
2) Person B quotes person A
3) Person C quotes person B, and that quotation includes the quotation of person A

Right now, person C can only quote person B, which leads to "gaps" in information.

Example:

1)
I hate banana.gif

2)
I hate banana.gif

I disagree.

3)
I disagree

What???

/End of example

Now no-one knows what person 3 is disagreeing with.

So yeah... would be great to have quoted quotes make a comeback.

I think this is actually a checkbox in the Invision Admin CP. Do you remember the old XSHL thread where like twelve quotes got quoted in a row?

I remember that, and while it was annoying, personally, I would take it over the current situation anyday. If you disagree, that is fair enough.

I don't agree or disagree, I was just confirming that the option does exist.

I agree with Simpucker. Though right now, there's a workaround (heh... How about that? A workaround on a 2K forum... What are the odds... chin.gif ): You simply hit the "+ Quote" button instead of the "Reply W/ Quote" button. Then you gather all the quotes and insert them into one another, like this:

QUOTE(Shadow @ Nov 17, 2009 - 12:32 PM)
QUOTE(simpucker @ Nov 17, 2009 - 11:25 AM)
QUOTE(Shadow @ Nov 17, 2009 - 10:19 AM)

In essence, you just keep moving the entire quote into the next one. The first one goes just after the first "open" quote brackets (with the date and time of the first post). Then you take the first two post, move into the third. Then the third, into the fourth, etc.

It's tedious, yes, but it allows you to do what you want, I think. Or you can just pester WAZ (Shadow's no longer a mod here I think) until he caves in. tongue.gif

Yeah, it's not a bad idea, but it's something I disabled early on for that exact reason -- too many crazy-long posts.

On the personal side, I look at a post like Venom's above and my eyes want to explode. Maybe that's just me?

On the practical side, it just takes up SO much screen real estate (and his example only has 4 quotes... I'm sure many discussions here would easily end up with a dozen embedded, post after post), you end up reading the same posts over and over as they're re-quoted, and the size of the database grows as it stores more info in every post.

So for me, unless there's a real demand for something like this (besides Fabian demanding it wink.gif), sorry, I'll have to vote "no" on Proposition 24.

@ simpucker: I've seen people directing their replies in this way more recently, too, which may help.

@ Shadow: I thought I banned you a long time ago... eyebrow.gif

How about allowing a maximum number of quotes we can quote in a post. For example a maximum of five quoted quotes?

Sorry, that's not an option in there. It's an on/off feature.
